Introduction of CEFR

school CEFR Level Descriptions and Corresponding English Proficiency Test Scores

info CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is an internationally recognized framework developed in Europe to describe language proficiency levels. It is widely used around the world to assess language skills.

The Ministry of Education in Taiwan has adopted this framework since 2005 as a tool for language proficiency evaluation.

Stage Level Description
A Basic User A1 Beginner: Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and interact in a simple way
A2 Elementary: Can understand commonly used phrases and communicate in routine tasks
B Independent User B1 Intermediate: Can handle travel situations and familiar topics, describe experiences and opinions
B2 Upper Intermediate: Can express opinions fluently and handle abstract topics
C Proficient User C1 Advanced: Can handle academic and professional content, organize thoughts clearly
C2 Mastery: Can understand any information and express deep meanings
