Beyond ASE’s own operations, the program introduced the development of the semiconductor industry in Kaohsiung and the broader technology landscape in southern Taiwan.
Company representatives outlined the different segments of Kaohsiung’s semiconductor ecosystem, from design and manufacturing to assembly and testing, materials, and equipment. Students learned that the industry relies on collaboration among companies and specialists across multiple fields rather than the work of any single enterprise.
The introduction to Kaohsiung’s semiconductor cluster helped students connect regional industrial development with the local job market. For international students considering employment in Taiwan after graduation, it also offered a broader perspective on possible internships, jobs, and long-term career opportunities in Kaohsiung and nearby areas.
Beyond Engineering: Exploring Diverse Careers in the Semiconductor Industry and Resume Submission
During the career session, ASE representatives emphasized that semiconductor companies need professionals from many disciplines, not only engineers and technical specialists.
The presentation covered a range of corporate functions, including production planning, purchasing, customer service, logistics, information systems, facilities management, human resources, and finance.
Students learned that large semiconductor companies depend on cross-functional collaboration. Production scheduling, supply chain operations, customer communications, administration, and financial management all require people with different areas of expertise.
This session showed students that a degree outside engineering or semiconductors does not necessarily rule out a career in the technology sector. Depending on their skills, language abilities, and interests, students can explore a variety of roles. The examples encouraged them to consider how their academic backgrounds might align with industry needs and to broaden their career options in Taiwan.
In addition to introducing career opportunities across different departments, ASE also provided international students with an opportunity to submit their resumes. This allowed interested students to express their interest in employment with the company and explore potential career opportunities at ASE. Through this arrangement, students not only gained a better understanding of the company's talent needs and career paths, but were also able to turn the industry knowledge gained during the visit into practical job search preparation and action, establishing a more direct connection with a potential employer.
Information for International Students: Employment Pathways and Work Authorization in Taiwan
Recognizing that the visiting group consisted primarily of international students, ASE thoughtfully included a session on employment regulations and pathways in Taiwan, helping participants better understand the requirements and procedures associated with working in Taiwan after graduation.
